In today's fast moving world it is very important to have subscription with a good Internet Service Provider (ISP) because be it for work, entertainment or social networking needs the Internet plays a vital role. Society has become highly dependant on the Internet that it has become difficult to spend a day without the Internet. It has been estimated that India had two hundred and forty three million Internet users by June 2013.
In the early days of Internet connectivity in Indıa there were only two ISPs – BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) and MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam). These two Internet service providers were state-owned and the only way of getting an Internet connection was approaching these two companies.
However, in the past few years, the scenario of the country has changed. With development occurring in nearly all fields in the country, India has open up grounds for private companies to come in and provide Internet services to its citizens. With the encroachment of private companies in this field, the Internet services have become better than before.
Previously, the Internet speeds available to subscribers were quite slow. People used to click a link and wait for minutes for the page to open. The scene now is different. The strong competition between the various private ISPs has meant that each and every Internet service provider tries to give its customers the best services. As a result of this competition, the speed of the Internet provided to customers has gone up many fold. Though the speed have gone up considerably, it trails behind the Internet speeds of more developed countries but the overall impact of these new ISPs have helped to make the Indian Internet user experiences better.
The many ISPs coming into the market have been providing various plans which promised high speed Internet but with the introduction of FUP (Fair Usage Policy), these companies suffered a lot. The FUP became a hindrance on the way of these companies to provide unlimited and high speed plans to their customers.
